Gavin MacLeod (Captain Merrill Stubing)

Captain Merrill Stubing was perfect as both the ship's anchor and the show's anchor, as he gave a fatherly role to both the crew and viewers. when he cameThe love boatScreenplay, Gavin MacLeod's agenttoldIt was absolutely "fucked" to him, but that spelling set MacLeod up for the role, and Gavin, the veteran TV pro that he was, saw the opportunity as a gold mine in the form of a feel-good show that was exactly what he was looking for, and America agreed, for almost a decade.

TIED TOGETHER: 40 years later, the Love Boat cast reunites and gets an unexpected surprise
MacLeod began acting in 1957 after serving in the US Air Force. He then moved to New York City, where he officially changed his name from Allan See to Gavin MacLeod, suspecting See was too confusing a surname to make it big. His first credited film role was in the 1958sI want to live!,a prison dramawith Susan Hayward, where he attracted attention in his breakthrough role as the nervous Ernest Hunkle in 1959 and was castOperation Unterrock. His first regular television appearances began in 1962 as "Happy" Haines on the Ernest Borgnine-led ship.McHale’s Navy. However, he left the show after only two seasons to star in the Steve McQueen film. The Sand Pebble.

The captain was 90 years old and living a damn good life from land to sea.

The Role of the DoctorThe love boatwas a job of a lifetime that, at its peak, earned him almost $40,000 for each episode and allowed him to work with friends and meet his Hollywood idols. Unfortunately, Lauren Tewes struggled with thata very public cocaine addiction throughout the show, leading to her being replaced after Season 7. Luckily, Lauren managed to break her dangerous habit and went back to school to train as a cheesemaker. She still does some acting and video game voice work, but also works as a sous chef at a Seattle catering company.

Today she is 68 years old. We last saw her in the moviePotato Dreams of AmericaEarly 2021. Despite being clean and sober for nearly 35 years, she still feels stigmatized by her exlove boatCast Colleagues. But we're certainly proud of you here, Lauren.
Fred Grandy (Gopher)

Who could forget the good old lovable Gopher? The ship's chief purser was a delightful draw for the younger female audience. Appropriately, gopher was usually the focus of the show's storylines. Maybe because he helped write it; he and Bernie Kopell wrote forThe love boat— 12 episodes, to be exact.

Cheers.

Ted Lange began acting in 1972 and quickly landed a series regular as a junior on the show. That is my mom. Then he went straight into one or the other sitcom,Mr T and Tina. He also appeared in the fourth season ofPromise Bet-Club and lost 28 pounds - good job! Today Lange is 74 years old and his next project to be released is a horror film starring Snoop Doggblood pageant, damn brilliant.
Jill Whelan (Vicki Stubing)
