Making his debut in 1963the x men#1, Magneto has been a mainstay of the Marvel Universe since his introduction, and the character is frequently cited as one of the greatest comic book villains ever conceived. However, despite his iconic status and popularity among fans, Magneto began his career as a stereotypical one-note villain before quickly transforming into one of the most complex and compelling characters in all of history. comics. As his character grew, so did the potency of his superpowers, and he gradually became recognized as one of the most powerful mutants in existence, capable of affecting matter on a cosmic level. Thanks to his ability to control all forms of magnetism and electromagnetism, Magneto is a much more versatile character than he initially appears.
On a basic level, he can manipulate metals and magnets, as well as create impregnable electromagnetic shields, but given the ubiquity of electromagnetism at the molecular level, many writers have come up with incredibly creative ways to use his powers. Unsurprisingly, these abilities have led Magneto to perform some of the most ridiculously surpassing feats of any Marvel villain, and whether he's fighting to enslave humanity or siding with the X-Men, the Master of Magnetism He is one of the most imposing figures humanity has ever seen. With that in mind, CBR is here to examine some of the character's most inspiring and terrifying acts to date. Here are the 20 most incredibly overpowered things Magneto has ever done.

20 WIN A FIGHT WITHOUT USING THEIR POWERS
While Magneto is undoubtedly one of the most powerful mutants on the face of the planet, his incredibly powerful mutant abilities often overshadow the much more human aspects of his skill set, with Magneto being a surprisingly competent melee combatant.
This is not better exemplified than inUncanny X-Men#321, which flashes back to Magneto and Professor X's early days as close friends. While drinking at a bar in Israel, the pair confronted a group of sailors, resulting in a rather hectic bar fight. Fighting alongside Charles, Magneto manages to beat up over a dozen men using nothing more than his fists and a broken bottle, proving once and for all that Erik Lensherr is not a man to be trifled with, even without powers.
19 FINISH RED SKULL
Given that Magneto's status as a Holocaust survivor has served as one of the most formative aspects of the villain's persona, it should come as no surprise that Erik has complete contempt for the Red Skull and all he stands for.
During the pair's second confrontation during the "AXIS" event, Magneto is initially outmatched by the Red Skull and his group of S-Men, before Scarlet Witch's intervention gives him the upper hand. Gaining a second impulse, Magneto not only takes down the entire S-Men team, but takes out the Red Skull for good measure, dropping a large chunk of debris onto the villain's head.
18 RIP THE ADAMANTIUM FROM WOLVERINE'S BODY
Given that Wolverine's entire skeleton is encased in adamantium, it's honestly a surprise that Magneto hasn't tormented the X-Men's resident berserker even more than he already has, as the Master of Magnetism often chooses to incapacitate. Wolverine instead of finishing him off completely. That said, when things really heat up between the two characters, Magneto doesn't mince words.
Although he defeated Logan in Ultimate Universe, Magneto's most memorable assault on Wolverine came inUncanny X-Menvol. 2 #25. Losing his temper during a skirmish with the team of mutants, Magneto violently strips Logan's adamantium bones, causing indestructible metal to ooze out of his flesh, leaving him in unspeakable agony.
17 CRUSH IRON MAN WITH A TOWER
Iron Man and Magneto have come to blows several times throughout their respective careers, but it wasn't until 2012.AVX: against#1 that fans got to see an extended solo battle between the pair. Wearing a non-metallic carbon nanotube version of his Iron Man armor, Tony initially has the upper hand in battle, and Magneto is unable to affect his suit in any tangible way.
Undaunted, Magneto casually knocks over a nearby Utopia Tower, said to weigh at least 170 tons each, and hurls it at Iron Man, crushing him. Of course, Tony soon recovers from the attack and the two continue their fight, with Iron Man claiming a decisive victory, though the degree to which this is true is debatable, considering the two men form an uneasy truce.
sixteen RESIST THE POWERS OF ROGUE
Frequently cited as one of the most powerful characters in all of Marvel comics, Rogue's ability to absorb the superpowers of other superhumans has allowed her to wield the abilities of Marvel's most formidable characters, including Ms. Marvel, the Hulk, and even the God of Thunder himself. .
However, despite the incredible limits of his mutant power, there is one character who was able to completely nullify the effects of his ability: Magneto. While Rogue doestechnicallymanages to deflect Magneto's mastery of magnetism, Erik's powers are so potent that Rogue is only able to absorb a small fraction of them, rendering her new abilities nearly useless against her enemy.
15 DEFEAT THE AVENGERS
While the X-Men are no stranger to defeat at the hands of Magneto, it's far less often that Earth's Mightiest Heroes come into conflict with the Master of Magnetism. However, on the few occasions that they have crossed paths, Magneto has more than proven his status as one of the most powerful villains on the planet, even subduing an entire team of Avengers on more than one occasion.
Seeking the help of the Avengers to stop Dr. Doom's nefarious plans, the team is initially hostile towards Magneto, who proceeds to single-handedly take down Yellowjacket, the Wasp, Vision, Wonder Man, and even Thor without breaking a sweat. Similarly, Magneto also left an entire team of Avengers writhing in pain duringMagneto: Dark Seduction#3, using his powers to reverse the blood flow of the entire team.
14 CREATE A MIND CONTROLLED ARMY
While Magneto is best known for his ability to manipulate metal and magnetism, what is less known is that he also has some level of telepathic ability, though strangely this is a power he rarely uses. Having been shown to be able to mentally sedate his enemies, augment the telepathic powers and even astral projection of others, it appears that Magneto can manipulate the chemicals in his enemies' blood to achieve a certain degree of pseudo-telepathy.
This ability was displayed in full force inavengers#110, in which Magneto creates a mind-controlled army of multiple Avengers and X-Men team members, including Cyclops, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Iron Man, and even Professor X, by restricting blood flow to their brains and manipulate your conscience
13 LEVEL A MOUNTAIN
It's common practice in the comic book medium to demonstrate the power of a particular character by having them cause destruction on the largest scale possible, so when a character knocks down a building, destroys a plane, or drops an overpowered character, you know they mean business. Magneto is no exception to this rule, displaying his great control over nature by causing irreparable damage to entire mountains on multiple occasions.
Magneto went from simply vibrating mountains early in his career to leveling entire mountains with ease. He has used this ability to intimidate, evade, and defeat his enemies, proving once and for all that there really is nowhere safe from Magneto's wrath.
12 DISPERSE PROTEUS IN PURE ENERGY
Kevin MacTaggert, perhaps better known as Proteus, is without a doubt one of the most profoundly powerful mutants in existence. With the ability to warp reality, bend the laws of physics to his will, and possess the bodies of anyone he wishes, Proteus feeds on the energy of his victims as he inhabits their bodies.
While the villain is one of the biggest threats the X-Men have ever faced, he is reduced to size by Magneto with considerable ease inThe X-Men Legacy#233. Forcing Proteus out of Blindfold's body using his powers, Magneto proceeds to disperse the villain's energy form into nothingness, essentially annihilating him, at least for the moment.
11 DAMP AN EARTHQUAKE
During one of the most heroic periods of Magneto's career, the Master of Magnetism attempted to repair his unfavorable public image after rejoining the X-Men. Learning of a potentially disastrous earthquake that would devastate San Francisco, Magneto took this opportunity to do some good public relations.
Travel to San Francisco inUncanny X-Men#534.1, Magneto saves countless lives and tens of millions in property damage by dampening the effects of the earthquake. Keeping the city's buildings intact by securing their metal structures and levitating vehicles, Magneto also manipulates the Earth's mantle to quell the destructive potential of the earthquake. Considering that he was able to stabilize the entire city's infrastructure at once, this is certainly one of the most impressive feats of strength Magneto has ever accomplished.
10 SURVIVE A NUCLEAR EXPLOSION
Believe it or not, Magneto's defensive capabilities appear to be just as powerful as his offensive ones, with the character capable of creating nearly impenetrable electromagnetic shields and similar defensive constructs.
Protecting him from most of the attacks he receives, even from beings as powerful as the Phoenix Force, Magneto's shields are much more powerful than you might expect. In fact, Magneto once used his electromagnetic shields to protect himself and, very kindly, several members of the X-Men and Avengers from a nuclear blast detonated from within a nearby asteroid. Of course, Erik doesn't get any credit for this uncharacteristically heroic act, but the moment remains one of Magneto's most jaw-dropping moments where he blinks and you'll miss it.
9 WORLD WAR III ALMOST BEGINS
One of the craziest chapters in all of Magneto's comic history,Magneto: Dark Seductionit was a book responsible for giving the titular villain several of his most ridiculously overpowered moments. Following the Master of Magnetism as he tries to thwart a rebellion in Genosha, a country ruled by Magneto himself at the time, Erik does everything he can to restore order to the nation.
Increasingly desperate, Magneto's attempts eventually lead him to take the entire planet hostage, repositioning 37 satellites in several different countries around the world. Magneto threatens to drop the satellites, acknowledging that the act would spark World War III, forcing the Avengers to retreat and leaving Magnus victorious.
8 DESTROY (AND REBUILD) AN ENTIRE CITY
It also takes place duringMagneto: Dark Seduction, the villain's destructive capabilities are demonstrated once again when he lays waste to the entire city of Carrion Cove, the home of the Genoshan rebellion. Siphoning the power of his daughter Polaris at that moment, Magneto easily destroys the city in a single "maddening surge of power" in a last-ditch effort to regain control of Genosha.
However, after the conflict subsides, Magneto appears to feel some degree of regret for his overzealous tactics, spending two full days rebuilding the city using his powers, though it is implied that Magneto's ego is just as responsible for this. this act as his conscience.
7 CREATE A WORM HOLE
Magneto's extensive control over metal and electromagnetism ranks among the most versatile superpowers in the entire Marvel Universe, allowing him to perform all sorts of unthinkable feats, with some writers getting incredibly creative with the applications of his mutant power.
In fact, Magneto's control over his powers is so great that he was once even able to generate a wormhole out of thin air, tearing a hole in the space-time continuum. It's strange that he only used this ability once considering the practicality of it, but since he was desperate to save Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch at the time, maybe his parental instinct influenced his new ability.
6 BECOMES HEAVENLY
Ancient and godlike beings who are among the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, the Celestials can create and destroy on an unprecedented scale. However, when Mr. Sinister steals Dreaming Celestial's head, the decay of his physical form threatens to wipe out the entire West Coast. Fortunately, Magneto soon intervenes, using his powers to prevent total disaster.
Acting as Celestial's central nervous system, Magneto integrates with the entity and holds its physical form together, slowly rebuilding the being through electromagnetic means. Called one of the most physically demanding feats of his career, Magneto complains that the act nearly melted his brain, but that's hardly a surprise given the Celestials' complex and cosmic physical makeup.
5 INVERSES THE POLARITY OF THE EARTH
While Magneto isn't officially considered an Omega Level mutant, he is often referred to as one of the most powerful beings on the face of the planet, and for good reason. With abilities that can wreak havoc on a global scale, Magneto generally tends to control the range of his powers, but has been known to indulge in his apocalyptic abilities on occasion.
Take the "Ultimatum" arc from the Ultimate Universe, for example, in which a vengeful Magneto uses his powers to reverse the Earth's polarity, resulting in the loss of millions. As if this wasn't bad enough, the story also sees Erik take out both Professor X and Wolverine in cold blood, in what is arguably the darkest chapter in Magneto's history yet.
4 THROW THE BREAKWORLD BULLET BACK TO EARTH
One of the most impressive things about Magneto's powers is not just his strength and power, but the range in which he can use them. Capable of affecting objects on a global scale, Magneto's powers can even reach outer space if he really tries.
The Master of Magnetism even managed to save Kitty Pryde at one point, who was trapped inside a city-sized intangible bullet known as the "Breakworld Bullet" at the time. Seeking to ingratiate himself with the X-Men after a recent change of heart, Magneto put himself in an almost meditative state to reach out of the solar system and bring the bullet back to earth before dismantling it, freeing the supposed longtime. Kitty Pryde is gone.
3 DOMINATE RED HULK
Initially touted as a character even stronger than the Hulk himself, Red Hulk is a true force to be reckoned with. One of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, it takes a truly top-tier character to stand even the remotest chance of going toe-to-toe with the rampaging monster.
Naturally, Magneto is one of the few characters shown to be able to subdue the Red Hulk, managing to unbalance him mid-jump in "Avengers vs. X-Men” before pinning the monster down with metal, using such force that even a character with the rampaging strength of the Red Hulk struggled to break free.
2 DIVERT MJOLNIR
Although Magneto's ability to deflect Mjolnir may seem like child's play on the surface, especially given that the hammer is composed almost entirely of metal, this is arguably one of the villain's most impressive acts.
Magneto is already able to control Mjolnir (although he can't reallywieldthe hammer), but stopping a Mjolnir attack in its tracks is actually the more remarkable of the two feats. Considering the hammer is capable of knocking Galactus down, damaging the Phoenix Force, tearing through space-time, and even absorbing magnetic energy, the fact that Magneto can use his electromagnetic shields to crush Mjolnir is nothing short of miraculous. .
1 APOCALYPSE TEARS APART
Being perhaps the most imposing and persistent villain the X-Men have faced, Apocalypse is simply bad news. With unmatched control over matter at the molecular level, as well as a long list of other incredible powers, Apocalypse is essentially a god.
This makes it all the more impressive that Magneto was able to drop the all-powerful mutant in the "Age of Apocalypse" timeline, ending his reign of terror once and for all by literally tearing him apart with his magnetic powers. - something that an entire planet full of superpowered beings had not previously been able to do.
